There’s nothing more relatable than this MLB umpire cursing on a hot mic

Being an umpire is a no-win situation.

You call the game well and no one cares. You call the game incorrectly and you have the fury of thousands pointed directly at you.

A gig is a gig is a gig though and you’ve kind of signed up for this. Put on the uniform, do your best and try to get out of there without cursing in front of a stadium full of people.

That last one sounds like the easiest of tasks but not for Adrian Johnson who slipped up during Wednesday's game between the Padres and Giants as he was explaining the ruling after a double-play review. Roll the clip!

It’s the look right after oh sh*t that makes this so rewatchable. We’ve all been there, saying something we shouldn’t have, eyes bulged out in terrified recognition, head scanning the periphery to hope no one caught it.

Sometimes umps are deemed robots, but this is humanizing to the nth degree. There’s even a little sheepish grin from Johnson after the expletive.

Work is exhausting. Sometimes you need to curse. Just make sure the mic is definitely off next time.

Or don’t. We love the content here at The Loop.
