No one has ever botched a scoreboard proposal worse than this Dolphins fan on Sunday
On Sunday afternoon, the Miami Dolphins overcame a double-digit first-half deficit and a late pick-six by Tua Tagovailoa to beat a 3-11 Jets team and claw their way back to .500 for the first time since Week 2. The win kept the team’s six-game win streak—and slim playoff chances—alive and landed them in the NFL history books, becoming just the second team in NFL history to rattle off six in a row after losing seven in a row. That's pretty dramatic stuff, but it paled in comparison to what happened in the Hard Rock Stadium stands at halftime, where one Dolphins fan was nowhere to be found as his marriage proposal hit the scoreboard:
Pro tip for all you fellas out there: If you’re going to go through the considerable trouble and expense of professing your undying love for your girlfriend on the stadium scoreboard in front of thousands of strangers, you might want to make sure you’re not in line for a hot dog when the message is scheduled to go up. These things don’t just randomly happen. It’s not like Hard Rock Stadium was like “when do you want this to go up?” and he was like “dealer’s choice, keep me on my toes.” He must have known it was coming.
The good news is that it wasn’t cold feet and he didn’t leave his lady in the wind (even if she is a Jets fan), eventually returning from the soft-serve-in-a-little-helmet line to put a ring on it.
Sure, it might have been touch and go for a minute or two, but at least they got a good story to the tell the grandkids.
