Major champ attends PGA Tour event, is shocked by alcohol prices: 'This spectating sh-- ain't cheap'

Golf Twitter was up in arms Thursday morning—and understandably so. PGA National, known as one of the year's toughest tests on the PGA Tour, was producing more low scores than those students at the beginning of "Stand and Deliver." Soft conditions, short rough and little wind in the opening round of the Cognizant Classic had the vaunted BEAR TRAP playing like a cuddly teddy bear. Unsettling stuff.
But one golfer not in the field took to social media to express his shock over something high: The alcohol prices at PGA National.
Long time Palm Beach Gardens resident Mark Calcavecchia was taking in some golf when he took this photo at a concession stand:
"This spectator sh-- ain't cheap," the 1989 British Open champ wrote. And he's not wrong.
Although, it makes us wonder if Calc has ever attended a pro golf tournament. Heck, a pro sports event in recent years. Because by 2025 standards, those prices aren't even that crazy. Who could ever forget the $18 Mich Ultras at the 2022 PGA Championship?
Anyway, we believe that if you win an Open Championship, you should be able to carry the claret jug around and get free refills wherever you go for the rest of your life. Until that becomes the law of the land, however, buy Calc a drink if you see him out there this week.
