Leadbetter On Wie

August 01, 2007

Other members of the Michelle Wie camp may not be talking publicly about the teen's comeback from injuries and her struggles this summer, but her coach, David Leadbetter, did to the Telegraph. Leadbetter contended that Wie's wrist is only partially healed and that it continues to impact her swing:

Leadbetter said that elements of her old swing were still firmly in place but that her relative lack of strength was causing her to make compensations. "It's what happened to Ernie," he said of another longstanding pupil, Ernie Els. "He came back too soon after injuring his knee a few summers ago. He made compensations and they, in turn, led to swing problems, which he took a long time to shrug off. Everything in Michelle's come-back has been just too hurried. She's pushing the envelope a bit.">
