Raiders kicker too good at football, loses to himself in fantasy

You know things are getting weird when a Las Vegas Raiders player is too competent for his own good.

It’s only been two weeks of this brand-spanking-new NFL season, but the Raiders are impressive? After beating two strong AFC North squadrons, Derek Carr is already over 800 yards passing, the team’s reimagined defense has looked effective and Daniel Carlson is leading all kickers in fantasy points.

That last point is good news for everyone … except for Daniel Carlson.

The 26-year-old (6/6 on field goals and 5/5 on extra points this season) was on the wrong end of a butt-kicking from his own foot. That line kind of makes sense. Don’t think too much about it.

There’s nothing worse than fantasy football. You can make all of the roster moves you want and read everything possible and set your lineup exactly right and psych out your opponents with tactless trash-talk and use a ouija board to get the great spirits from beyond onto your side and yet you can still lose because the opposing team’s kicker drilled three forty-yarders. What can you do?

We’re sure Carlson will still take the NFL victory over the fantasy victory, but that’s a tough way to go. Las Vegas might be heading in the right direction, but it does feel right that a Raider excelled at his job to such an extent that it led to a loss.

And now let’s go to Chris Berman for the only way to end a story about the Raiders.
