British Open 2025: Jon Rahm was NOT pleased with a fan that whistled during his backswing on Thursday
At just about every major, Jon Rahm delivers some sort of hot-mic moment. It’s practically tradition at this point. During the second round at Oakmont, the spicy Spainard lost his cool, issuing an F-bomb that was felt on the Richter scale after yet another missed putt on the slip n' slide greens. Though Rahm kept his profanity in check at Royal Portrush on Thursday, we did get a glimpse of the old "Rahmbo" when a fan whistled during his backswing on the par-4 11th. As his tee shot found a particularly nasty patch of rough, the LIV Pro wheeled on the gallery, scolding the unidentified fan for the disruption. Check it out.
Rahm, one of the betting favorites this week alongside Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, went on to bogey the hole, opening his inward nine with consecutive squares. He bounced back with a birdie on the 14th, keeping himself firmly in the mix, but the early blood pressure spike is not what you want to see. Make no mistake, the fan whistling during Rahm's backswing was in the wrong, but the British Open requires patience in all facets. Whether riding out the elements or conjuring up some creativity around the greens, the winner at Royal Portrush will have to keep a cool head and steady hands. We’re not saying Rham can’t talk himself down, but perhaps a pair of ear plugs might help …
