Officials with the PGA Tour couldn’t have asked for a better scenario than the one that played out in the final round of the RBC Canadian Open. As the rival LIV Golf Invitational Series, with its massive guaranteed contracts, wrapped up its debut event in London on Saturday, the tour countered with a star-studded final threesome playing for a title at St. George’s Golf & Country Club in Toronto on Sunday.

Rory McIlroy and Tony Finau, who started the day tied at 11 under, and Justin Thomas, one shot back at 10 under, had a combined 37 PGA Tour wins, six majors and an average World Ranking of 10.7.

In the end, it turned into a Sunday shootout, McIlroy prevailing with a closing 62 to win by two shots over Finau (64) and three shots over Thomas (64).

The victory for McIlroy was the 21st of his PGA Tour career but the first time he’s defended a tournament title (he won the Canadian Open in 2019, the last time the event was held due to COVID-19 cancellations of tournament in 2020 and 2021). It also meant McIlroy closed out a tournament for the ninth time in 15 tries while leading or carrying a share of the lead entering the final round.

For his win, McIlroy claimed a prize money payout of $1.566 million from an overall purse of $8.7 million. Here are the prize money payouts for the entire field.
