Golf Digest Podcast: How golf can help you lose weight while still eating the foods you love
In a recent issue of Golf Digest, Ron Kaspriske wrote a story entitled: “Worth the Weight: How I lost 23 pounds in a year—downing burgers.” The headline has all the earmarks of Internet click bait … until you indulge yourself in reading about the sound, methodical approach Ron took to creating a program that allowed him to lose weight without sacrificing too much. Best of all, the plan involves our favorite activity (outside of eating): golf.
So how did Ron do it? While encouraging you to read the story itself, Ron is the guest on the latest edition of the Golf Digest Podcast, where he discusses his plan. Spoiler alert: The ability to lose weight while still eating foods that aren’t considered parts of most diets also requires being active, which is where golf comes into the equation.
For all those who don’t consider the sport a true athletic activity, Ron offers some valuable data that suggests otherwise. For instance, when you carry your bag and walk 18 holes, you’ll burn 1,500 calories, which is more than half the recommended calorie intake for a male golfer on any given day. In other words, playing golf provides enough physical benefits to allow you to have a steak and a baked potato that night for dinner and still be on track to losing weight.
