German hockey player dodges runaway zamboni during post-game interview

January 31, 2018

We're gonna level with you guys here: We don't watch a lot of Deutsche Eishockey Liga. So while we'd love to be able to say this footage of Straubing Tigers winger Stefan Loibl nearly getting steamrolled by a zamboni mid post-game interview is the highlight of the season, we honestly don't know. Maybe Gretzky has been playing under a Swedish alias. Maybe one rink has great white sharks swimming beneath the ice. Maybe a player bounced a game-winning shootout goal off a satellite and into the net. Short of any those admittedly pretty unlikely scenarios, however, this has to be the craziest thing the DEL has seen this year, if not a few more before it.

Needless to say, we're not only thankful for the highlight, but also that no one was seriously hurt. As you can see from the look on Loibl's face as well as the ensuing carnage, which left trainers and TV men alike sprawling on the ice, this could have gone from funny to decidedly not in a hurry. In the end though, we can watch on sans guilt, and hopefully also use this as an important teaching moment:

You know that big red "R" on the shifter? Yeah, that stands for "reverse."
