Save for later

It’s the first week of the PGA Tour postseason, which means every player in the top 70 of the FedEx Cup points standings (sans Rory McIlroy) will be teeing off at TPC Southwind and the FedEx St. Jude Championship with $20 million and quite a few FedEx Cup points on the line. No. 70 Matti Schmid ended the Wyndham with three straight birdies to make the FEC Playoffs for the first time. And he’ll be up against the best of the best, most notably World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who has a chance to become the first golfer to win back-to-back FedEx Cup trophies.

Top talents like Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, Russell Henley, Collin Morikawa, Harris English, J.J. Spaun, Ludvig Åberg, Keegan Bradley and Sepp Straka are all teeing off this week, as will defending St. Jude champ Hideki Matsuyama.

The Ron Prichard design (with consultation from Hubert Green and Fuzzy Zoeller) has hosted an event on the PGA Tour since 1989, and starting in 2022, it hosts one of the premier events on the PGA Tour schedule, the first leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs. Located about a half hour from downtown Memphis on an old dairy farm, TPC Southwind holds its own against the best players in the game, with water coming into play on 11 holes. The par-3 11th hole is perhaps the course's signature hole, featuring a peninsula green that requires a short iron, similar to the 17th at TPC Sawgrass' Stadium course.

Last year, Matsuyama went into Sunday with a five-stroke lead and still needed birdies on his final two holes to emerge victorious after a topsy-turvy back nine. He ended up besting Viktor Hovland and Schauffele by two shots.

Only the top 50 in the FEC standings after Memphis move on to the BMW Championship at Caves Valley. Heading into St. Jude, Min Woo Lee is right on the line at No. 50 with J.T. Poston less than two points behind him. Other players near the cut line include Jordan Spieth, Wyndham Clark, Kurt Kitayama and Bud Cauley.

This week's winner will receive 2,000 FedEx Cup points and a $3.6 million cut of the $20 million purse.
