    Save for later

Scottie Scheffler remained on top. That’s of little surprise. The World No. 1 was a shot out of the FedEx St. Jude Championship playoff that Justin Rose ultimately won over J.J. Spaun on the third extra hole. But he was not knocked from the pole position of the FedEx Cup standings with two playoff events remaining.

Rose, of course, was the biggest mover in the rankings, jumping from 25th to fourth with the victory at TPC Southwind, his 12th on the PGA Tour. The top 50 earned their respective tickets to the BMW Championship this week at Caves Valley in Maryland. They all also earned automatic exemptions into the eight signature events on the tour next year. Those finishing Nos. 51-70 are done for the season.

To make the math simple, five players played their way into the BMW, meaning five played their way out. Rickie Fowler, Bud Cauley, Kurt Kitayama, Jhonattan Vegas and J.T. Poston were the lucky ones. Jordan Spieth, Aldrich Potgeiter, Jake Knapp, Wyndham Clark and Min Woo Lee were the five who failed to advance to the second playoff event.

The top 30 in points after the BMW Championship will advance to the Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta, where the winner will collect $10 million.

Because there is no rest for the weary, there is a big money distribution for the 30 just making it to the playoff finale. Each man will earn something for their standing heading into the Tour Championship, then collect more after the finish. The No. 1 in standings after the BMW Championship (hello, Scottie!) will earn $5 million, No. 2 will take home $3.5 million down to the 30th player who will earn $195,000.

Here are the top 50 who qualified for the BMW Championship at Caves Valley (previous ranking in parenthesis) … and the next 20 who finished in spots 51-70 and had their respective seasons ended.

The Ron Prichard design (with consultation from Hubert Green and Fuzzy Zoeller) has hosted an event on the PGA Tour since 1989, and starting in 2022, it hosts one of the premier events on the PGA Tour schedule, the first leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs. Located about a half hour from downtown Memphis on an old dairy farm, TPC Southwind holds its own against the best players in the game, with water coming into play on 11 holes. The par-3 11th hole is perhaps the course's signature hole, featuring a peninsula green that requires a short iron, similar to the 17th at TPC Sawgrass' Stadium course. The hole will be memorable for anyone who watched the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship, when Will Zalatoris' tee shot ended up staying dry and wedging itself between the grass, in his playoff victory over Sepp Straka.
