Two days after Gary Woodland underwent surgery to remove a lesion on his brain, his alma mater, the University of Kansas, announced that it was naming its golf practice complex used by the Jayhawk men’s and women’s teams after him.

The Kansas Board of Regents on Wednesday approved naming the facilities the Gary Woodland Golf Complex that includes practice holes, a driving range and putting facilities at the privately-owned Jayhawk Club in Lawrence, Kan.

Woodland, who graduated from Kansas in 2007, is the Jayhawks’ most decorated player, a winner of four PGA Tour events, including the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach in 2019.

“He has been incredibly supportive of the golf program,” Chancellor Douglas Girod said to the Regents in seeking approval to attach Woodland’s name to the complex. Woodland, who has a home in Lawrence, is recovering from the surgery that removed most of the tumor, according to the PGA Tour.
