Camilo Villegas used to bike 100(!) miles to see his future wife, is a modern-day Romeo

Scott Halleran

With a win last week, Camilo Villegas reestablished himself as one of the best golfers on the planet. But when it comes to being an all-time great boyfriend, he wrapped up that status years ago.

Camilo and Maria Ochoa have been married for nearly a decade, but before they tied the knot it was the PGA Tour star who put in a lot of legwork at the beginning of their relationship. Literally.

Following Villegas' victory at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, the tour posted a video about his love of biking—while an unidentified friend told quite a story about the lengths Camilo would go for a date with Maria.

"When he was dating his now wife, he would ride his bike 100 miles to Miami to go see her. I don't know how many people would drive 100 miles for a date."

Move aside, Romeo. Now that's true love. Here's the post, which also shows him riding with Colombian cycling star Rigoberto Uran:

What a stud. Cue up The Proclaimers! "And I would bike 100 miles, and I would bike 100 more . . ."

And if we needed anymore evidence of Camilo's incredible fitness, Luke Donald commented, "Once went down to Miami for a fun weekend. 90 minute drive. Camilo biked down and met us there - 85 miles!" Impressive stuff.

"Removing myself from the course and engaging in something athletic that I enjoy has been really important to me as a golfer and a person," Villegas told Golf Digest in 2014. "Cycling gets me away from everything."

Well, everything except a date with Maria, that is.
