Cam Smith and his Ripper GC mates celebrated the LIV Team Championship by throwing back a couple shoeys
CAM SMITH AND RIPPER GC ARE YOUR 2024 LIV GOLF TEAM CHAMPIONS!!! … Er, hello, is this thing on? Alright, so maybe you don’t care who won the other golf league’s other championship. We don’t blame you; the team format has been one of LIV Golf’s least successful innovations. But even if you’re blissfully unaware of which squad took home the title at Maridoe Golf Club outside Dallas on Sunday, perhaps you’ll be interested in the celebration, which saw Cam Smith’s merry band of [four-letter Aussie term that you absolutely CANNOT say on this side of the Hemisphere] throw back a couple sweaty champagne shoeys for the 'Gram. Bottoms up!
Temps in Texas topped out at around 95 degrees on Sunday, which should give you some sense of the gastrointestinal fortitude this stunt required. After they slugged down their shoeys without batting an eye—Aussies really are built different—Ripper GC then hurled their soggy shoes into the crowd. Um, thanks fellas?
Anyway, Ripper [pronounced rip-ah] GC’s celebration was a fitting end to LIV Golf’s third full season. It was brash, loud and more than a little silly. It made the purists nauseous and gave the frat bros some new ideas about how to inhale beer. It also came with piles and piles of money. $14 million to be exact. Shoey or no shoey, we’ll drink to that.
