British Open 2023: Jon Rahm laughs after holing back-to-back pitch shots in the rain, might be worth a wager this week

July 18, 2023

We know that by now you've probably placed a bet on Rory McIlroy to win the 2023 Open Championship. Heck, everyone on our staff seems to be doing just that, and for good reason with that Scottish Open finish and his history at Royal Liverpool. But this video of Jon Rahm could possibly sway you in the Spaniard's direction.

The reigning Masters champ was practicing at Hoylake on Monday when someone captured him holing back-to-back pitch shots. In rainy conditions. OK, so this isn't exactly a huge deal for a former World No. 1 with a brilliant short game that has drawn comparisons to his idol, Seve Ballesteros. And yes, to appease all the old heads, Seve could probably hole 100 of the same pitches in a row. Blindfolded.

Still, it was an impressive moment, and an indication that Rahm's short game is extra sharp heading into the year's final major. Even the 28-year-old could only laugh about it as his caddie retrieved his golf balls from the bottom of the cup:

Or, maybe, he was laughing because that second one had a bit of steam on it as it clanked off the flagstick. Either way, that dude is good. And, at 13-to-1 odds (behind co-favorites Rory and Scottie Scheffler), that seems like decent value . . . We're not financial advisors, but if you've got a few extra bucks lying around. . .
