Boo Weekley coins another legendary catchphrase while discussing PGA Tour Champions Q-School
In late 2023, Boo Weekley made his rumblin’, bumblin’, stumblin’ return to professional golf. Though Weekley only played a handful of events since 2017 due to injury, he quickly endeared himself to former peers and fans with his affable attitude, folksy musings and, uh, creative pronunciations of fellow pros’ names.
Ultimately, Weekley’s first season on the senior circuit didn’t go quite the way he hoped, but it did land him back in PGA Tour Champions Q-School this week, where he gave golf fans another legendary nugget of Weekley Wisdom. Ladies and gentleman, we give you “you ain’t got to shoot the fur off of it.”
Maybe where Boo comes from—the Florida panhandle, if you couldn't guess—this is a common term, but it’s new to us Yankees. That said, we love it just as much as we love the 2008 Ryder Cup folk hero and plan to use it until our playing partners threaten to leave our bodies in the woods. In the meantime, we hope Weekley does in fact “shoot the fur off it,” because golf needs personalities like his now more than ever.
