Fandom is a funny thing. Sometimes it brings you joy, sometimes it brings you sorrow and, occasionally, it drives you to tweet at a PGA Tour pro for 850 days straight. Just ask @ConkyCBR, who has tagged Max Homa on Twitter each day for nearly two-and-a-half years asking to play a round of golf with him. For 849 days, he heard crickets, but on Tuesday, everything changed.
This week, the wily Twitter veteran in South Africa to defend his 2023 Nedbank Golf Challenge title. With an entire ocean between him and @ConkyCB, Homa spotted a prime opportunity to make his wildest dream come "true" and pounced. Watch the master work.
This is the definition of “chess not checkers.” In a few simple words, Homa offered a fan the round of a lifetime and kept his status as golf’s best Twitter(er?) while simultaneously dodging the need to meet his no. 1 online stalker in person. That’s a win-win-win in our book. Unless, of course, @ConkyCBR hops on the next flight to South Africa. That could get awkward …
