Beans Kelly getting back into coaching
NEW ORLEANS--On a night where the National Golf Coaches Association honored several of its own at the NGCA Hall of Fame Induction Banquet, one award winner made a surprise announcement. Nearly eight years removed from retiring from her post at Georgia, Gladys Palmer Award recipient Beans Kelly informed her audience that she was returning to coaching, taking the head women's job at Coastal Carolina.
"I don't know just yet what a Chanticleer is, but I promise you I'll find out soon," she joked. "It begins officially this Thursday, and I can't tell you how excited I am to be back."
In Kelly's 14 years at Georgia, her teams won seven SEC titles and had eight top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championship. She coached 19 All-Americans, and four of her former players are current Division I women's golf coaches. She was inducted into the NGCA Hall of Fame in 2000.
