Australian tour pro shoots 59 on back-to-back(!) days
An Australian journeyman had a weekend to remember—and may have just pulled off a first in golf history.
Peter Wilson shot not one, but two rounds of 59, carding golf's magic number on back-to-back days at Lang Lang Golf Club, according to the PGA of Australia.
The 45-year-old is currently No. 881 in the Official World Golf Ranking, but unfortunately these scores aren't going to help him improve in that regard. Wilson appears to have pulled off the feat as part of a PGA of Australia event. Here are a look at the two scorecards, one of which notes his stableford score of 43 points for the round:
As you can see, Wilson played from the white tees at the par-70 course in Victoria that measured 5,488 meters or 6,001 yards. So, no, it's not exactly TPC Sawgrass, but back-to-back 59s anywhere deserves some serious recognition.
Wilson has been a pro for two decades with his biggest win coming at the 2012 Western Australia PGA Championship. But now he can lay claim to a remarkable—and random—feat that brings to mind Johnny Vander Meer's consecutive MLB no-hitters thrown for the Cincinnati Reds in 1938.
So how will Wilson celebrate back-to-back 59s? We'll have to wait to find out. In the meantime, we're guessing he won that stableford competition.
