Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson and K.H. Lee. These four golfers all have something in common: They all defended their championship at the AT&T Byron Nelson.

Now, Lee has a chance to go back-to-back-to-back at TPC Craig Ranch. That’s certainly a feat that would put him in rarified company. The last player to do that in any PGA Tour event was Steve Stricker with his three-peat at the John Deere Classic in 2009-11. Only nine men have done it since World War II, including Watson at the Byron Nelson in 1978-80.

Lee’s bid for history will be up against a strong contingent of Texas golfers competing this week, despite homegrown hero Jordan Spieth’s Monday WD due to a left wrist injury. Former University of Texas star Scottie Scheffler is set to tee off after skipping last week's Wells Fargo Championship, as are highly ranked pros like Hideki Matsuyama, Tyrrell Hatton and former winner Aaron Wise. The 2018 Rookie of the Year hasn’t played since the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, having withdrawn from the Masters to focus on his mental health.

This will be the last event before next week's PGA Championship at Oak Hill. In 2021, Lee needed a win at this tournament to earn a spot in the major. We’ll see if history repeats itself for another fledgling pro soon enough.

The winner will receive 500 FedEx Cup points and a $1.71 million share of the $9.5 million purse.

TV Schedule

Golf Channel will carry live coverage on Thursday and Friday from 4-7 p.m. EDT. On Saturday and Sunday, Golf Channel will start the coverage from 1-3 p.m. with CBS taking over with afternoon coverage from 3-6 p.m.
