HOW TO LAG PUTT LIKE A PRO
When you stand over a long putt, what's your strategy? Pick a line and get it close, I bet. Me? I’m thinking about making them, because when you try to make it, it narrows your focus and the miss just might end up in that three-foot circle for an easy two-putt. Try my strategy. —Ben Griffin
- Get your initial read from behind the ball
- Choose the highest line for a hole out
- Determine your speed by that line
- Walk next to your line to confirm the read
- Re-confirm your read from behind the hole
- Visualize the path into the cup
- Note the entry point
- Rehearse a shorter putt on the intended line
- Stand astride of the line
- Feel the slope with your feet
- Keep the whole process fluid
- Make practice strokes to relieve tension
- See the line one more time
- Think, hole it; not, get it close
