Why We Like It
- Although larger and more playable than last year’s CLK, the conventional ST-Z provides a flatter, lower-launching trajectory compared to the ST-Max.
- This more traditionally sized hybrid (the 2-hybrid volume is 121 cubic centimeters) decreases in size as the loft increases (the 5-hybrid is just 103cc).
- The adjustable hosel provides lofts from 14 to 27 degrees.
- A wide channel in the sole stretches nearly the width of the sole to give at impact and create additional face flex on off-center hits.
- A polymer filling in the cut-through channel in the sole encases a steel bar to lower the center of gravity for reduced spin and higher flight.
- Thin, high-strength steel alloy in the face (about as thick as a nickel) with a variable-thickness design provides more potential ball speed.
- The underside of the crown is thinned with a waffle pattern. This and a thicker, extended weight pad on the sole help lower the center of gravity.
- Top 5 in Performance, low-handicaps
- 16, 19, 22, 25 degrees (with an eight-way adjustable hosel)

It almost looks like a hybrid between a hybrid and a fairway wood. Not the longest off the screws, but very stable on off-center hits. Gives you a lot of room to breathe across the face. I found it very loud. It has some get up and go off the face, and in the airwaves.

It's a harder club to swing because of the heavier weight, but pured shots are certainly capable of going the distance.

It plays like a long rescue iron. It's heavy in the head, but that makes it easier to hit out of the grass and thicker rough. You might hit a slight chunk, but the ball is going to go far. I got a ton of roll and big carry with this club.

Alan

Club feels very light, which makes it easier to generate more swing speed. Shots don't go extraordinarily long, but do fly high. Similar distance to a 4-iron, but much, much higher. More forgiving than an ordinary iron, too. Mis-hits would wobble but stay on their line.

Matt

It performed more like a high-lofted fairway wood. Shots had good height and a nice, soft landing to them. After being fit into the right specs, my mis-hits still found the fairway. Not a ton of left or right dispersion. Some clubs just feel more energetic than others, and this one is on that end of the spectrum.

Tight dispersion. Not a ton of distance, however, due to the high launch. It's as if the ball wastes too much energy going up instead of forward. I did feel very connected to the ball through my hands, and knew exactly what to expect after impact as soon as I looked up.

Matt

The pear-shaped head is the perfect size; it exudes confidence because you can clearly see the face at setup. Very firm feel to face at impact. You can feel the mis-hits in your hands. Very spinny. Distance was average no matter where the ball went, which was all over the place for me.

Molly

I like the smaller, more blended look transitioning from the face to the crown. The alignment logo isn't too noticeable, and doesn't detract from its player-ish look. Piercing ball flight, but not too low, and room to move the ball in any direction. Feedback in hands was a little harsher than some.

John

I hit a lot of high balls with this one and got some great distance. Was able to turn the ball over more than I typically do, which I definitely attribute to the club and not my swing. Felt very comfortable in my hands.

With a focus on forgiveness, this model is the highest launching of Cobra’s hybrids and features a larger head size than the King Tec.
A bridge-like structure inside the front of the head attaches to internal heel and toe weight pads to push the center of gravity low and forward for better energy transfer.
That structure also yields extra stability on off-center hits.

Cobra’s most advanced hybrid uses multiple materials and adjustability to optimize distance and trajectory.
The L-shaped face insert wraps around the leading edge and into the sole to maximize rebound, particularly on lower-face impacts.
The face is also designed with variable thicknesses across 15 distinct regions for more consistent speed across the face.

A faster face and a range of adjustable lofts make these hybrids among the most versatile in the game.
Ping lowered the face height by 8 percent and made it thinner. This encourages center-face contact for a higher launch and more ball speed.
A redesigned interior section of the hosel removes mass that helps to lower the center of gravity by 12 percent for higher launch and less spin.
