The Week In Style: 01.20.15
Jimmy Walker and Kids
Walker may have faltered the previous weekend at Kapalua, but he walked away with the W at the Sony Open. Afterward, Walker's sons Mclain and Beckett bum-rushed their dad on the 18th green and put everyone else's style to shame in their amazing matching Hawaiian-print shirts and shorts. Attention all dads: The bar for cutest photo of 2015 has been set extremely high with this gem.iliac Golf
Gary Stal
When Martin Kaymer collapsed, Stal made the most of it with his come-from-behind win at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship. I'm still a big fan of the monochromatic move but the real statement here are Stal's olive custom-cap toes. Hard to beat the classics.Footjoy
John Daly
If you support Billy Horschel wearing octopus pants, how can you turn around and ask what the heck Daly's doing in pink polos and paisley pants? Some of the style rules go out the window with J.D, but there's a reason. It's hard to imagine anyone on tour wearing this stuff better than Daly does.Loudmouth Golf
Harris English
English looks great in this pale-green trouser, and I hope we see more of these softer shades during warm-weather rounds this year. Pale colors like this are easy to work into your wardrobe no matter what basic colors your tend to wear and can also balance out looks better than high-contrast primary pieces. Fit wise, though, my man's pants are still way too long.
Jamie Donaldson
We've seen a ton of white trousers on both tours so far in 2015, and Donaldson is a guy who wears them well. White pants feel much fresher than the standard country-club khaki and can make the other colors in your outfit pop. Wearing them also gives you one of the few legitimate excuses to put the white belt collecting dust in your closet back into play.J. Lindeberg
Edouard Espana
The Spaniard looks so much like Seve Ballesteros in this photo, it's scary! As for his outfit, the yellow pants are a bold move that fit well and look good. That said, when you're working with primary colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, etc.) try not to stack too many together. A simple white shirt would have looked fine if not better.
Camilo Villegas
The first few looks from Camilo's new apparel sponsor, AG Green Label, have been all about simple styling and sharp details. The button-down collar creates a nice collar stance for the polo, and the taped-seem breast pocket adds a cool, technical vibe to a classic silhouette. I'm looking forward to seeing this new brand evolve this season.AG Green Label
Rory McIlroy
This. Looks. Awesome. One of Rory's first setups of 2015 is a stunner. It's hard to design a style that is this bold with as many detail accents that is this well-balanced. The color-block top, neon chest stripe and faint, faded hairline stripes are all based in shades of green, which helps create one coordinated move as opposed to three separate ideas. Also, did you notice how the scale shifts from wide at the color block to super fine at the lowest feeder stripe through the chest? No? That's the beauty of great design. Barely noticeable details sync up to make one sick shirt.Nike Golf
Justin Rose
Is Rose wearing Broakleys? Aside from the somewhat suspect looking eyewear he does a nice job color-blocking the blues here.Ashworth Golf
Robert Karlsson
Karlsson, did not heed the aforementioned white-belt advice and cut his tall, slender frame in half on Saturday at Abu Dhabi.
Matthew Fitzpatrick
I don't mean to pick on the kid, but Fitzpatrick struggled to find the right fit again last weekend and continues to look lost in his own gear. The former U.S. Amateur champion needs to find a tailor to take in his pants in the seat, leg and thigh so it doesn't look a tent just collapsed on his legs. If you're worried about looking younger than you are, wearing clothes that look like your big brother's hand-me-downs only make matters worse.Under Armour
Rickie Fowler
Rickie's style seems to get stronger each season, and 2015 is already off to a good-looking start. Sure, Fowler's known for big, bold head-to-toe looks but some of his smoothest set-ups are his simplest ones. I don't suggest identically matching your shoes, belt and hat, but syncing up some colorful details can look very tour. Here Rickie's light-blue belt and shirt blend seamlessly and pick up the accents on his shoes and hat. The key word is accents. Tip the scales with full-blown blue shoes and a blue hat and the look goes overboard.Puma Golf
Ernie Els
Els confirmed he keeps up with our Week in Style coverage by responding to my khaki call-out last week and putting these great looking green chinos into play in Abu Dhabi. (Well, at least that's what I'm tellin' my self.) This is a simple and stylish improvement here, Ern. Good on you.
