Falsterbo Golf Club
Overview
Along the windy shores of the Flommen nature preserve on the Falsterbo peninsula sits Falsterbo Golf Club, which is surrounded by the white sand beaches of the Öresund and the Baltic Sea and is home to the oldest clubhouse in the country. The first nine holes at Falsterbo were completed in 1911 by Robert Turnbull of Copenhagen Golf Club. Gunnar Bauer later finished the 18-hole design in 1934, with many of his or Turnbull’s design elements still alive in the course’s modern iteration. Falsterbo has undergone multiple renovation projects, the first being a green restoration by Peter Chamberlain in 2001. Satisfied with the 2001 renovation, Chamberlain returned with Alan Strachan in 2014 to redesign holes three through six, as well as nine, 16 and 17. Since 2020 the club has redesigned two more holes and added two more stories to its iconic clubhouse. Devoid of significant natural undulation, Falsterbo plays as an undeniably links-style course with fescue-lined fairways, windswept oceanside holes and ample run-up areas to play approaches along the ground. The standout hole comes at the par-3 11th, played along the interior marshland section. The hole is played to a peninsula green surrounded by hazards with views to the surrounding sea.
