Overview
In a state filled with excellent private clubs—including Newport CC, Shelter Harbor, Wannamoisett and Misquamicut—Newport National is the best public option in Rhode Island. The Arthur Hills design is fairly flat and given the course is about a mile from the ocean, wind can play a significant factor. Holes are lined with thick, gnarly fescue which create links-style visuals at Newport National.

“One of the two best public courses in Rhode Island, Newport National offers a relatively secluded inland location in a state where oceanfront golf abounds. This modern Arthur Hills design boasts expansive fairways and few trees in the well-kept, wide-open property. Be prepared - the facilities are spartan, and the course is not to be confused with Newport CC many miles down the road. But if in Rhode Island and looking for a daily fee option, Newport National can be on a short list of options."

“Newport National is a very upscale daily fee facility. The golf course was origina;;y conceived as a high-end private destination national club, which for financial reasons never materialized in that form. While there is no clubhouse yet or amenities, the golf course remains a beautiful and challenging test. Unfortunately, they do not allow daily fee players to walk, which would add to the experience."

“Newport National is a modern design near Newport that is the best public course in Rhode Island by most metrics. While the course lacks really any amenities, it is fun, well-conditioned, and features strong architecture."

“A good but not great public golf option in the Newport, RI area. Most clubs around here are private, so this is a pretty good option. Nothing great, but pretty solid overall."

“Don't let the fact that the pro shop is essentially a trailer fool you. This is a solid course with some variety to its routing."
