Differing in style from the eight other Pinehurst courses, No. 9 is a Jack Nicklaus signature design featuring bentgrass greens, forgiving fairways and five sets of tees. Several holes favor left to right shot shaping, and the putting surfaces are often multi-tiered.

“Pinehurst #9 winds throughout the neighborhood, making good use of the topography and not feeling claustrophobic. The course was firm and fast through the fairways; however, PH #9 maintains bent grass greens that require more water in the hot summer months, so they were not as firm as the other Pinehurst Bermuda greens. Like many Nicklaus courses, #9 is a second shot course with large, sloping, multi-tiered greens, requiring the appropriate approach to have a good look at bridie and score. There are few elevation changes, which have been utilized well to give the feel a NE course. The course is medium length with only 2-3 holes requiring a mid-iron on the approach. Overall, #9 is a fun course for players of all abilities."

“Not quite the design of its fellow Pinehurst courses, but very solid course that is very enjoyable to play. Excellent change of pace from the other courses in the area. Well worth the trip and time to play this course. Green complexes are just as good as any courses in the area as well. Par 3's are very good in terms of design and difficulty."
