“St Ives features the first 11 holes that wind through a hilly forest. The golfer is presented with several downhill tee shots and approaches, and numerous uphill and partially blind tee shots and approaches. The fairways have significant undulation, and shotmaking and precision is critical. The course then meanders through and around a marsh and network of ponds/lake. This is a classic Jerry Matthews design with large pancake gently undulating greens surrounded by rough and solid bunkering. Hitting the ball straight is a premium, however, the course is fairly forgiving. The trees that surround the rough are generally playable. The course has an "Up-North" feel and has the golfer feeling surrounded by nature. The par 3s for the most part play over a marsh/pond. Hole 14 is one of the most challenging holes in the state. A straight drive is required. The second shot to this par 4 is uphill to and elevated green and has wetlands on the left and short of the green. Hitting to this green from the rough is extremely challenging. The greens roll true and play fast. This course is challenging for the better player while still being playable for the amateur."

“Most will enjoy this scenic "walk in the woods," but a few too many forced carries and similar holes keep the fun factor down somewhat."

“Great “up north” Michigan feel. A little tough with so many raised greens."
