“Mingo Springs was a surprise. I went on a whim after hearing of some great history, and the course did not disappoint despite mid-May being a touch early for golf in this part of the world. The course has an interesting history of two separate 9-hole layouts that both started almost 100 years ago and merged in the mid-20th century. They play as courses might that have not been touched in a century, with crusty ground and old-world green complexes. So many courses are being restored these days that it's easy to lose sight of how golf once was, and Mingo Springs certainly takes you there, as renovation funds are not yet available in Rangeley, Maine. The course is on the shorter side with plentiful birdie opportunities, there are some all-New England holes, including the impossible par three 7th and the blind tee shot 9th over a fescue-covered hill invisible from the tee."
