“Two vastly different nines, except it's not the front and the back. It's the outer nine and inner nine. After teeing off just steps from practice putting green (almost touching it), the first 5 and last 4 holes on Congressional Gold (inner 9) has a similar feel to it's more famous sibling Blue Course (pre redesign)... Long holes with wide fairways, inviting a player to rip driver off of every non par 3 tee box. But cross under Persimmon Tree Road to the outer 9 and a new course awaits. Tree lined and tight with designed doglegs making one think more about position than distance. Unusual design with the back to back par 5 6th and 7th, made up for by the 7th being reachable if you can fly it all the way to the perched green that slopes away from the direction of play. Par 3 finish over water facing the iconic clubhouse reminds us of the old finish on the Blue where Ernie Els won the 1997 US Open."

“Excellent layout variety giving big brother Blue a run for its money. Great stretch of “outside 9” holes (6-14 thru the tunnel) with fantastic use of water and contoured front sloping greens."

“Kind of a quirky course. The greens are a bit too sloped for modern green speeds. Many members will tell you they prefer the gold over the more famous blue course. Not sure how they draw this conclusion except it's probably easier and the pace of play is better."
