Overview

Donegal Golf Club is set on the stunning cliffs of the Murvagh peninsula overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The course occupies a dramatic 182 acres of fescue and wild flower covered dunes that jut out into the picturesque Donegal Bay framed by the Bluestack mountains. Originally designed by Eddie Hackett in 1973, the course underwent a restoration led by Pat Ruddy in 1992 that added five new greens and new championship tee boxes to increase length. The project also included restoring almost all of the course's original bunkers. The course has a benign start before sending players toward the water and steep dunes for the next three holes, highlighted by the par-5 eighth with water up the entire right side and a well-protected green to discourage players from attempting to reach in two. While the front nine at Donegal is set along the exterior of the property, the second nine occupies its inner portion and features intimidating tee shots flanked by dune walls and wide open vistas to the surrounding sea and mountains in the distance.
