Overview
There’s a ton of history on the grounds of the Jameson Golf Links. John Jameson III, the great grandson of John Jameson, founder of the iconic Irish whiskey brand, had a private, nine-hole course built on land at Portmarnock, 25 minutes outside Dublin, around the 1850s, part of a 600-acre sect of land overlooking the ruins of an ancient church of St. Marnock. Three holes of that original course (the eighth, ninth and the 15th) were used in the design by Bernard Langer and Stan Eby in 1995. In 2023 Jeff Lynch of ReGolf Design renovated the course ahead of its official rebranding as Jameson Golf Links after a change in ownership. Lynch focused his renovation on the final 10 holes, adding five new green complexes and four new tee areas, allowing new panoramic views to the Velvet Strand, Ireland’s Eye and Lambay Island in the distance. Renowned for its understated design, Jameson Golf Links has the feel of a course built long ago, with natural sloping fairways, blind approaches and elevated tees and greens that create an unmistakably links environment. The first nine is the easier of the two, as it follows more subtle ground before the second nine routes players up and around rugged sand dunes. The trek amongst the dunes begins with the par-3 ninth and starts an unforgettable stretch where six of the next 10 holes play adjacent to the Irish Sea.
