Overview
CDA National sits on bluffs overlooking Lake Coeur d’Alene in northwestern Idaho. There are some tremendous elevation changes, which not only present captivating shot options but also offer golfers stunning vistas of the lake below. The front nine is relatively open, while the back nine is a far more secluded, forested layout. Given the sloped terrain, the course can be a strenuous walk—but if you get the chance, don't turn down an opportunity to play this stunning Tom Weiskopf design.

“CDA National is a Tom Weiskopf design set on elevated terrain overlooking Lake Coeur D’Alene, Idaho. Stretching out to 7,254 yards from the back tees and playing to a 75.0 rating and 144 slope, CDA National is a fine and challenging layout that will allow a high handicapper to be rewarded for good play while simultaneously testing very skilled players. CDA National offers a good variety of holes with the front nine being fairly wide open while the back nine narrows, wandering through wooded terrain providing some spectacular views of the lake. CDA has many elevation changes with most holes playing downhill although 9, 10, and 13 are uphill and 1, 3, 6, 7, and 17 are flat. 4 dogleg left (2, 5, 7, 11) and 6 dogleg right (1, 3, 8, 13, 14, 18) holes reward the ability to play various shot shapes to get into the best positions for shorter approaches. There are few truly short holes with only the 16th as a drivable par 4. The par 3s are all over 190 yards but elevation changes shorten 3 of them to manageable distances for most players. All the par 5s are reachable, except for the 612 yard 14th, with two well-struck shots, although the 3rd is very well protected by a stream and rock wall. Most holes at CDA allow any type of ball shape off the tee, except for the par long par 4 5th which calls for a draw or the also long par 4 13th which favors a fade. Greens are fairly receptive to lofted or running approaches, except for holes 3 and 4, although some pins can be tucked behind green-fronting bunkers. The open front time is often subject to moderate wind so a lower, penetrating ball flight is quite useful. CDA National’s back nine offers some panoramic views of Lake Coeur D’Alene, especially from some of the elevated tees late in the round. Other views of the nearby hills and mountains enhance CDA’s aesthetic appeal through organic use of the surrounding landscape without any false attempts to enhance the natural beauty of the terrain. One of the appealing features of CDA National is the ability to provide an enjoyable and challenging round of golf for golfers of all skill levels. High handicaps have space off the tee to miss, especially the front 9, and the greens complexes are generally open with plenty of bailout areas that make par difficult but eliminate fun-killing “others”. For the low handicaps, CDA offers plenty of challenges to par through its length and contoured greens. There are plenty of birdie opportunities, but slightly mis-struck shots can turn potential birdies into very quick bogeys. Conditioning at CDA is very good. Fairways are firm with consistently good lies. Greens are quick, but not exceptionally fast, with true rolls throughout. Most well-hit approaches were well received and performed as expected. Bunkers, (except the very firm 18th, much to my chagrin) were very consistent and well maintained, thereby allowing successful recovery shots. Overall, CDA National is a very fun course that is a pleasure to play. Conditions are very good; the course presents a good variety of holes and rewards good play. The scenic appeal, especially the back 9, presents more to the day than just stellar golf without any artifice or smoke and mirrors."

“Such a great design course. Really feels like the first 11 holes flow really well and give some good winding natural landscape and the remaining 7 are ever changing lake views cutting through some trees. This course offers score ability for high handicappers, but also a significant challenge for low handicappers. Greens are world class and very deceptive. Gives a couple good shot option holes with different landing areas to play. A couple short par fours to allow hero shots. Three of the four par fives are really unreachable in two and gives great strategy on where you would like to play your third shot into the green from."

“Very cool golf course in an even cooler area of the Country. What is now CDA National Reserve has seen some owners over the years, but this Weiskopf is a championship track. Rumor has it that the celebs and general traffic at Gozzer has caused a lot of folks to drive their boats across the lake to this spot. New clubhouse coming soon."
