“This course was well worth the trip! The Green Fee was very affordable and a very pleasurable course that had strong appeal to golfers of all levels."

“An inexpensive challenging course in paradise. Many beautiful views of the ocean and verdant mountains that border the course. The back nine is the original course built in the 1930s, while the front nine was built in the 1960s. Ironically, the original nine seems more modern with more interesting green shapes, elevation changes and varied routing of the holes. Most greens are elevated and protected by large, high lipped bunkers which also prevents any low running shots onto the green particularly on the front nine. The course plays longer than the indicated yardage because of windy conditions and the elevated greens. If you are in Kauai, this course is well worth playing."

“A great place to play for value and fun. Definitely one of the better public courses in Hawaii with some beautiful vistas and subtle, but challenging putting greens."

“Kauai's best known muni course located near the town of Lihue. Designed by Toyo Shirai (a local golf legend) this course is by far the best golf value on the island ($60.00). The course plays long from the back tee's (almost 7,000 yards) and depending on the weather / wind, this will play even longer. The day that I played, the course was still very wet from some storms that blew in earlier in the week. The fairways had virtually no roll at all, and mud-balls were the norm throughout the course. The soft greens did hold well but because of the wet weather, they were rolling very slow (like 7.5 - 8). This muni has some wonderful views but is in need of some major refurbishment. The conditioning has fallen below average and the island aesthetics have been eroded by a lack of much needed maintenance. While Wailua is a good value, that also means that you will find a lot of new / novice golfers paying their $60 to walk the course (many of them playing barefoot) which translates into a 5+ hour round of golf. The course is a nice walk but the slow play and wet conditions put a damper on my level of "fun". With other resort courses in the area charging $300+ this course is a good value, but remember that in Hawaii you get what you pay for."

“The most fun muni I have ever played. It's a bonus when the first two holes run along the ocean. I would return here. Front 9 is nice and flat, and an easy opener, and the back nine meanders through the trees and elevation changes galore. Conditioning was great and it is very walkable! It seems like this is the locals course."

“Hidden gem on the island of Kauai. Play it early though, or it can be extremely crowded. From the back tees, this is every bit of a golf course that you could want. The course starts you off with a great tee shot straight towards the beach, with your approach running parallel to the sand. If that doesn't wake you up, the long, challenging par-4 2nd and par-3 3rd will kick things into gear. The course generally stays away from the beach the rest of the way until you hit the gorgeous par-3 17th. Conditioning for a municipal course is pretty good, and pace of play in the morning is quick."

“The best golf bargain in Hawaii. In contrast to typical resort courses in Hawaii, Wailua is a more classical design."

“What a bargain with several holes along the ocean. Condition is an issue but the beauty makes up for it."
