Overview
Situated on the south shore of Kauai, Poipu Bay is a Robert Trent Jones Jr. design that hosted the PGA Grand Slam of Golf from 1994 to 2006. Formerly a member of our 100 Greatest Public ranking, the course plays over 210 oceanfront acres and features wide fairways and large greens, making this a playable layout. There are numerous historical sites on the course, including several ancient Hawaiian heiau—places of worship—and centuries-old handmade stone walls.

“Removal of many trees and an update to the irrigation system has enhanced this course dramatically. Much better sight lines and views all over the course. Conditions were better than any time I can remember in the couple decades I've been visiting this course. Not an overly difficult test but a few challenging shots. The finishing stretch of holes is the real star of this course, especially 15-17. With the wind at your back, these downhill holes provide stunning views of the rocky coastline and give you a great chance to post a low number."

“Typical yet excellent resort golf course which recently completed a total redo of its sprinkler system and green side bunkers. Course was in very good condition when played albeit typically slower greens and fairways given its seaside location. Very good variety of holes. Last 4 holes play along and above the ocean and really end the round on a positive note."

“Solid, yet fairly typical resort-style course until you hit the 15th hole. The last 4 holes really end your round on a positive note. Extremely scenic and fun to play. The rest of the course is usually in good condition, and unless the wind is howling, it doesn't play too difficult."

“Poipu Bay is quite a good experience overall. The clubhouse is very nice, the staff is quite friendly and the practice range is good. The course is a bit of a sleeper for most of the round and then turns back to the clubhouse and is a real gem. Generous fairways are a trademark at Poipu Bay, so tee shots are not a huge premium. The greens are quite large, so accurate green reading is a must! The trade winds aren't too severe at Poipu Bay, so you don't feel beat up during the round."
