Overview
Wilshire is an exclusive private club with an old-school layout situated on 104 acres near Hollywood. The course is bisected by Beverly Boulevard and a barranca meanders throughout, coming into play on around half of the holes. The course was designed by Englishman Norman Macbeth in 1919 and hosted four Los Angeles Opens between 1928-1944. Tipping out around 6,500 yards, Wilshire is a short course by modern standards, but a variety of testing green shapes with plenty of undulation, as well as sharp-lipped deep bunkers, make the historic course a strong test. In 2008, Kyle Phillips revamped the bunkers and barranca, drawing out a more evocative 1920s appearance, and he returned in 1925 to update that work and conduct a more comprehensive top to bottom remodel. Wilshire's 18th hole remains one of the city's best closing holes with its green set under the view of the clubhouse, tucked in the elbow of the deep barranca.

“Another wonderful LA golf course with a rich history of Hollywood golf. I was fortunate to play with a member / friend several days after the LPGA Tour was in town and the course was in amazing condition. Wilshire was designed by the team of McBeth & Phillips and shows off the older nature of the game. Relatively flat, the course offers a good walk with easy routing and challenging shot options. The fairways were firm and fast, the greens rolled true and were also very fast thanks to the set up used for the LPGA. The course has put in a considerable amount of money to enhance many of its native areas. According to my member friend, they would LOVE to do a complete restoration to bring the club back to its glory days, but a portion of the membership is divided on the cost / time issues. Wilshire is a fun course to play and has the "bones" to be another great LA course if they decide to put in the funds & time to restore it."

“Difficult course that plays on two sides of a road. Significant challenges caused by water, bunkers, sidehill lies and challenging green complexes and surrounds."

“A fun old school Hollywood track. The greens are slick and have more break than they look. One of my favorite collections of par-3's. Don't forget to take in the vista on 9 with the Hollywood sign in the distance. Wonderful creative bunker design and placement."
