You won't believe the bad break this PGA Tour pro once witnessed at Bay Hill

March 06, 2024

If you haven't been following him on Twitter, Michael Kim has emerged as one of the best follows—and top storytellers—on the PGA Tour. And, boy, did he deliver another doozy ahead of this week's Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Kim recalled playing at Bay Hill and witnessing one of the worst breaks we've ever heard of. It involves Si Woo Kim, a seemingly perfect drive, and . . . a plaque?

Yep, you read that correctly. The fairway of the 18th hole at the Orlando course has a plaque dedicated to Robert Gamez's famed walk-off eagle 34 years ago at what was then called the Nestle Invitational. Gamez holed a 7-iron from 176 yards to stun Greg Norman (Who else?) by one shot.

Anyway, at some point years later, Michael was playing with Si Woo, who managed to hit the small, hard target on the fly only to see his golf ball bounce all the way into the water hazard. And, let's just say, he didn't handle this bad break very well.

Can't say that we blame you, Si Woo. That's rough.

Anyway, to all those playing in this week's Arnold Palmer Invitational, make sure you have that plaque marked in your yardage books.
