Where's Johnny?

March 19, 2010

Golf was largely missing among the nominees for the 31st annual Sports Emmy Awards, announced on Thursday by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Even NBC's Johnny Miller, who has received at least four nominations in the past and is widely regarded as the best in his sport, did not receive one in the Sports Event Analyst category.

CBS' Jim Nantz is a nominee in the category of Outstanding Sports Personality Play-By-Play, of which golf is only a part. Nantz does play-by-play on the network's NFL telecast and the NCAA basketball Final Four.

Other nominees from golf: "The PGA Tour on CBS" in the Outstanding Live Sports Series category; "Inside the PGA Tour" in Outstanding Live Event Turnaround; "PGA Championship on TNT, PGA.com and Mobile" in Outstanding New Approaches Sports Event Coverage; "NBC Golf Tour" in Outstanding Live Event Audio/Sound; and the Masters (on ESPN) in Outstanding Music Composition/Direction/Lyrics.
