Watch William McGirt keep his season alive with an incredible hole out for eagle
OK, so you probably didn't spend much of your week worrying if William McGirt was going to qualify for the BMW Championship. Still, it's moments like these where the FedEx Cup Playoffs actually play out, well, like a playoff.
McGirt was in the 75th position in the standings -- only the top 70 players advance to the third playoff event next week -- when he reached the 17th hole of his final round at the Deutsche Bank Championship. The 36-year-old journeyman needed to make a big move over the final two holes to keep his 2014-15 PGA Tour season alive and he did just that with one incredible shot. Check it out:
McGirt's hole out for eagle from 169 yards vaulted him into 69th position. And a par on the final hole kept him inside the top 70 -- at least, for now.
UPDATE: McGirt finished in the 68th spot -- up 20 spots from the beginning of the week -- to advance.
