Watch this British Open farewell video to Tom Watson
Tom Watson is saying a final goodbye to the Old Course this week. Again.
The 65-year-old believed 2010 would serve as his swan song over Swilcan Bridge, as the R&A exempts past champions until they reach 60. However, due to Watson's heart-breaking performance at Turnberry in the 2009 championship, the tournament created a new provision: past winners receive a five-year exemption following a top-10 finish. (Note: anytime in life that someone has to institute a rule strictly because of your being, you have done something spectacular. Or vice versa.)
Alas, Watson reiterated that this year's Open -- along with the 2016 Masters -- will mark his final appearance on the main stage.
