Watch PGA Tour players hit persimmon, vintage clubs at the Northern Trust Open

For the growing, vocal contingent grumbling about modern equipment making the game easier, listen up: PGA Tour pros don't need watermelon-sized drivers to bomb it down the fairway.

Here's proof.

To commemorate the Northern Trust Open's 90th anniversary, a host of players in this week's field stepped up to Riviera Country Club's historic 10th hole to hit vintage clubs from the 1920s, '50s and '90s:

The video contradicts the idea that innovative clubs render their predecessors obsolete. For, while new equipment can give you extra yards or added forgiveness, it ultimately comes down to the Indian, not the arrow.

Because a fundamental swing is timeless.
