Historically, if you desired a green jacket from Augusta National Golf Club, you needed to:
- Receive an invitation to join the club as a member. (Spoiler: You will never receive an invitation to join the club as a member.)
- Win the Masters. (Also unlikely.)
Luckily, a third option is now available:
A visit to your local thrift store.
In an interesting piece on Golf.com, writer Sean Zak details the story of a Houston nonprofit store discovering the famed article of clothing in a donations box. The item was traced to the 1960s, and validated by Hamilton Tailoring Company, the official manufacturer of the green jackets.
According to the nonprofit, it has sold the hidden treasure. While not releasing the selling price, an auction site told Zak the green jacket could garner as much as $50,000 on the open market.
That sound you hear is every golf nut running to their nearest Goodwill.
