Wake duo takes inaugural Hooters Collegiate Team title
A precursor for the pending fall season? Wake Forest women's coach Dianne Dailey can only hope as Demon Deacons' Cheyenne Woods and Michelle Shin beat the Alabama duo of Jennifer Kirby and Brooke Pancake by two strokes to claim the Hooters Women's Collegiate Team Championship.
Woods/Shin team was two shots back with four holes to play at the golf course at Achasta By Reynolds in Georgia before Woods made an eagle and Shin a birdie on the 15th hole and then both birdied the 16th.
Fifty-three schools were represented in the inaugural event, which used different formats each of the three days of competition (alternate shot, best ball and two-player team total). Rounding out the top five were Stetson (Alexandria Buelow and Lauren Cate), Virginia (Brittany Altomare and Elizabeth Brightwell) and Florida (Jessica Yadloczky and Evan Jensen).
The low D-II team was Ashland (Annie Miles and Erin Misheff) in 16th place while Gustavus Adolphus (Katie Schenfeld and Taylor Drenttel) was the low D-III/NAIA team.
