This PGA Tour pro already won Valentine's Day with a Pebble Beach proposal
We all know these guys on the PGA Tour are good. Apparently, they're also pretty romantic.
Take rookie Mark Hubbard, who proposed to girlfriend Meghan McCurley on Thursday after holing out on No. 18 at Pebble Beach. A golf tournament might not scream romance, but Saturday is Valentine's Day, and is there a more beautiful place in the world than Pebble Beach?
As soon as Hubbard, 25, wrapped up his opening round, a marriage proposal flashed up on the big screen around the green and a shocked McCurley was encouraged to go inside the ropes and meet him. Then Hubbard did the usual -- got down on one knee, mumbled a few words and popped the question -- in an unusual setting with a crowd watching (although not a huge crowd since he's Mark Hubbard and he was playing in the final group of the day).
Proposing in public, especially at athletic events, is risky, but McCurley immediately said yes. Go Mark! Check it out:
Even more impressive is that Hubbard kept his emotions together enough to par the final five holes and finish with an even-par 72. But on 18, his nerves almost got to him when he ran his birdie putt about three feet past the hole.
"I was like, man, it would really suck to three-putt right now," he told PGATour.com. "So I was pretty glad I made that second one."
Eh, something tells us he would have gotten over it.
