Video: New Hall of Famers Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine compete in chipping contest
By Alex Myers
Pinpoint control was always Greg Maddux's best asset as a pitcher. Apparently, he's pretty accurate wielding a wedge as well.
Maddux and Tom Glavine, who were both elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Tuesday, competed in a chipping contest on "MLB Tonight" on Thursday. Taking place in MLB Network's studio, renamed the "MLB Network Country Club" for the occassion, Maddux chipped a ball to within a foot of second base to edge his former teammate.
We're happy for Maddux, who was the better pitcher, but usually isn't as good as Glavine when it comes to golf -- not that he's a slouch. Maddux has a 3.9 handicap index, while Glavine boasts a sparkling 2.0. Pretty impressive for a pair of 300-game winners.
The video also features a surprise appearance at the end by Frank Thomas, the third member of baseball's Class of 2014, although it seems "The Big Hurt" isn't much of a golfer. Don't worry, Frank, you still have plenty of time to pick up the game.
