VidantaWorld Mexico Open picks 2026: Johnny Keefer can showcase his skills at Vidanta Vallarta
The VidantaWorld Mexico Open is back and if it feels like it's been a while since we've seen this tournament, that's because it has been. This event was last played in February 2025, when Brian Campbell got one of the most famous breaks in recent memory in a playoff against Aldrich Potgieter.
The tournament was moved to October this year for a number of reasons, among them the coinciding with the grand opening of the VidantaWorld Bon Theme Park. The event has been a great spot for the big hitters, Campbell not included, as evidenced by a history of winners that includes Jake Knapp, Tony Finau and Jon Rahm. Will another bomber emerge, or will a Campbell-like, short-hitting cinderella prevail?
The Golf Digest betting panel is comprised of Pat Mayo of Underdog/Mayo Media Network, Andy Lack of the Inside Sports Network, Ryan Noonan of Betsperts, David Gordon of ESPN, your two authors and Keith Stewart, the CEO of Read The Line.

VidantaWorld Mexico Open picks 2026: Our Experts’ Outright Predictions
Pat Mayo, Underdog/Fantasy National, Mayo Media Network analyst: Johnny Keefer (27-1, DraftKings) — Keefer is the perfect skill profile for Vidanta: High ball speed, lots of distance, and makes a ton of birdies. If he could ever putt, he’d be perfect. His comp-course metrics at places like Renaissance Club (T-3), Memorial Park (T-3) and Craig Ranch (T-9) check out and he enters in solid form with two top 10s in three Fall Swing starts.
Keith Stewart, PGA, Read The Line: Ben James (19-1, DraftKings) — I’m not worried about Ben James missing the cut in Bermuda. Prior to playing Port Royal Golf Club, James ripped off three top-five results in a row. Ben has four top fives in his past seven starts. Vidanta Vallarta allows James to use his elite driving and scoring skills. A prototype modern player, the Mexico Open resort course rewards power and precision. Ranked inside the top 10 on approach and birdie or better percentage, I’m taking Ben to finish big south of the border.
Read The Line's Keith Stewart and Pat Mayo discuss the keys to handicapping the 2026 VidantaWorld Mexico Open.
Ryan Noonan, Content Manager 4for4/Betsperts: Johnny Keefer (27-1, DraftKings) — This is an ideal setup for Johnny Keefer’s game, and I wasn’t surprised to see him pop in my Betsperts Golf model this week. He has two T-10 or better finishes in three starts this Fall, and his best finishes this season (Scottish and Houston) came at venues where he could pound driver off the tee and showcase his strong long iron play.
Stephen Hennessey, Golf Digest managing editor: Marco Penge (31-1, DraftKings) — The 28-year-old had a bumpy first full season on the PGA Tour, but he’s ending the year strong with four finishes inside the top 20 in his past five starts. His biggest strength is his length off the tee, and VidantaWorld is probably the course best suited for his game. He’s a very good long-iron player, ranking 12th in this field in strokes gained on approaches from 200-225 yards, and eighth on approaches of over 250 yards, per RickRunGood.com. That’s a winning combo.
Christopher Powers, Golf Digest senior writer: Neal Shipley (36-1, DraftKings) — This golf course is a bomber’s paradise, and nobody is bombing it right now quite like Neal Shipley, who ranks first on the PGA Tour in SG/off-the-tee. He’ll need the putter to stay hot like it was at Biltmore, where he posted the best finish of his career (T-3).
Andy Lack, Inside Sports Network: Andrew Novak (35-1, FanDuel) — Andrew Novak has now put together back-to-back great performances on approach this Fall swing, and his long iron ability should pay dividends at Vidanta Vallarta, where he has already recorded two top-15 finishes.
David Gordon, ESPN Research: Taylor Moore (60-1, BetRivers) — Moore played great in all three rounds in Bermuda including his best SG/approach figure of the entire year. The first win of his career came following a top-three finish in his previous start, which is what he finished last week. Give me the under-the-radar hot hand with Moore.
Past results: With Andy Lack’s correct prediction of Scottie Scheffler to win the Tour Championship at +345, the panel now has eight outright winners in 2026. That was Andy’s first win of the year, and it came on the heels of Keith Stewart and Pat Mayo’s first win of the year, Wyndham Clark at the BMW Championship. Ryan Noonan has four winners and Steve Hennessey has three. Onto the fall we go, and with a new member of the panel! Welcome David Gordon of ESPN, who you may also know as the “double hammer” king.

VidantaWorld Mexico Open picks 2026: Sleepers/Dark Horses Who Could Win
Mayo: Kevin Roy (56-1, DraftKings) — Roy has been quietly striking the ball brilliantly all summer long, seeing the weekend in every start since the John Deere Classic, and popping up on slow-green putting models. He’s got the game to navigate these conditions quietly under the radar.
Stewart: Billy Horschel (68-1, DraftKings) — Billy Horschel’s iron play has been really strong since the beginning of the summer. Sitting at 100 on the FEC points list, Horschel has to perform for the next few weeks. Second in the field for SG/approach over the last 24 rounds, Billy is going to give himself a ton of birdie chances. To compound the Horschel subpar scoring, Billy is a proven putter on Paspalum. Sixth in the field for his flat stick on this spongy surface, the combination of scoring acumen and sense of urgency will serve Horschel well in this weak Fall series event.
Noonan: Rico Hoey (50-1, BetRivers) — Rico’s putter is bad enough to send him home on Friday afternoon from time to time, but the ball-striking upside is about as good as it gets, especially when shopping down the board in the 50-1 and beyond section of the menu.
Hennessey, Golf Digest: Aldrich Potgieter (86-1, DraftKings) — I’m echoing CP’s thoughts below. Brian Campbell taking him down in 2025 is on the Mount Rushmore of my bad beats in golf betting. I wouldn’t be able to go on if Potgeiter won and I wasn’t on him.
Powers, Golf Digest: Aldrich Potgieter (86-1, DraftKings) — Potgieter’s recent form is heinous, but there are just certain players you have to bet on at certain courses. Potgieter at VidantaWorld is one of those situations. Nothing can turn your confidence around quite like some comfy confines. He’ll be able to wail away with the driver and give himself plenty of birdie opportunities.
Lack: David Ford (50-1, BetOnline) — I was very impressed with David Ford last week, who was one of the top ball-strikers in the field at Port Royal on a course that I did not think suited him all that well. Now he travels to a course that should really accentuate his elite total driving skill, similar to Black Desert, where he already finished top five this fall.
Gordon: Isaiah Salinda (130-1, DraftKings) — Nice showing last week with his T-11 finish, and last year went 65-67-68-65 to finish third at this event. Worth a sprinkle at this number.
VidantaWorld Mexico Open picks 2026: Miscellaneous prop
Mayo: Luke Clanton top-20 finish (+270, FanDuel) — Clanton has the massive ball speed and scoring potential required to let the shaft out and roast a resort course. He enters in his best form since being an amateur (T-11/T-7) and spiked his best result of the season on equally slow greens in Puerto Rico (T-5).
Stewart: Patrick Rodgers top-20 finish (+340, FanDuel) — Very few players have competed in all four PGA Tour events at Vidanta Vallarta. An even smaller number of players have finished inside the top 25 in all four editions: two. Only one of them is in the field. Patrick Rodgers has finished 10th, 10th, 6th, and 25th in four straight trips to the Vidanta World Mexico Open.
Noonan: Ryder Cowan top-20 finish including ties (+700, FanDuel) — Ryder Cowan’s performance at Shinnecock Hills this summer was impressive, and the fifth-ranked amateur in the world has continued to build off of that performance, including a win for the Sooners at the 2nd Swing Gopher Invitational last month.
Hennessey, Golf Digest: Doug Ghim (40-1, first-round leader) — I love betting Ghim first-round leader, particularly when he’s scorching hot like he is right now.
Powers, Golf Digest: Alejandro Tosti top-20 finish including ties (+380, DraftKings) — Tosti has missed five of his last six cuts. The one time he did make the weekend in Utah, though, he tied for 13th! That week, he played to his strength—driving—which he’ll be able to do again this week at Vidanta, where he tied for 10th the last time this tournament was played here in February of 2025 (Tosti tied for 10th here back in 2023, too).
Lack: Ben Silverman (+175) over Zac Blair and Adam Svensson, Round 1 3-ball (DraftKings) — Ben Silverman is one of my favorite sleeper players this week, and he is coming off a spike approach performance at the Butterfield Bermuda where he finished in third place. Neither Zac Blair, nor Adam Svensson are sticking out to me as good courses fits at Vidanta, so I will roll with the hot hand.
Gordon: Johnny Keefer Top 20 Finish (+140, DraftKings) — I think this is the best play for anyone looking to grab Keefer shares this week. Not sure he's ready for his first tour victory, but he's played really solid golf in his three starts this fall (two top 10s and a T-33) -- I'm in for the plus-money top 20.
Misc. Prop Results from the Butterfield Bermuda Championship: Lack: 1 for 1 (Erik van Rooyen Top South African Finisher, +175); Noonan: 1 for 1 (Luke Clanton Top 20 Finish including ties, +184); Mayo: 0 for 1; Powers: 0 for 1; Stewart: 0 for 1; Gordon: 0 for 1; Hennessey: 0 for 1
Misc. Prop Results from the 2026 season: Lack: 4 for 8 (up 7.17 units); Noonan: 4 for 8 (up 5.8 units); Mayo: 1 for 8 (up 1 unit); Powers: 2 for 8 (down 0.32 units); Stewart: 2 for 8 (down 0.4 units); Gordon: 0 for 4 (down 4 units); Hennessey: 0 for 8 (down 8 units)
VidantaWorld Mexico Open picks 2026: Matchups
Mayo: Ben James (-115) over Ben Griffin (Coolbet) — James suffered through an off week at a poor course fit in Bermuda last week. Now, he shifts back to a course that aligns with his elite ball-striking metrics and high-end putting. And doesn’t have the pressure of being the odds-on favorite, too. Can’t hurt.
Stewart: Corey Conners (+100) over Ben Griffin (BetMGM) — Corey Conners played in the Biltmore Championship, was sent out for five matches at the Presidents Cup, and finished third on Saturday at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. Conners is battle-tested this fall. Ben Griffin has not played since the middle of August in the BMW Championship. While Griffin warms up for his title defense next week, I’ll take Conners in this H2H tournament matchup.
Noonan: Marco Penge (-125) over Zach Bauchou (Book) — 2026 fell short of expectations for Marco Penge, mostly due to injury. There’s some flop lag here, and I’m looking to buy in 2027. His driver is such a weapon, and he comes to Mexico in good form, with four T-20 or better finishes in five fall starts worldwide.
Hennessey, Golf Digest: Johnny Keefer (+115) over Tom Kim (DraftKings) — It won’t let me catch him in our year-long matchup record bet, but I absolutely love this 2-ball from CP. So I’ll follow him to the window on this one.
Powers, Golf Digest: Johnny Keefer (+115) over Tom Kim (DraftKings) — Tom Kim has played some very emotional, high-stakes golf recently. I’m not so sure he’ll be able to match that intensity for the Mexico Open. Keefer, meanwhile, stylistically matches up perfectly with this golf course and is having a very strong Fall.
Lack: Andrew Novak (-160) over Mac Meissner (BetOnline) — I typically don’t like laying this much juice in a matchup, but Andrew Novak is one of my picks to win this week, and Mac Meissner is one of my biggest fades. Novak had another excellent approach week at the Butterfield Bermuda, while Meissner has missed two of his three cuts this Fall swing and really fallen off with the putter.
Gordon: Jackson Suber (-118) over Keita Nakajima (DraftKings) — Suber hasn't quite popped this Fall like a lot of us expected but he also hasn't totally flopped by any means either. Nakajima's best finish this fall (T-50) is worse than Suber's worst finish despite Suber playing in more events.
Matchup Results from the Butterfield Bermuda Championship: Mayo: 1 for 1 (Power (-105) over Yu); Stewart: 0 for 1; Noonan: 0 for 1; Lack: 0 for 1; Powers: 0 for 1; Gordon: 0 for 1; Hennessey: 0 for 1
Matchup Results from the 2026 season (Wins-Losses-Pushes): Mayo: 20-15-2 (up 5.03 units); Stewart: 19-13-3 (up 3.89 units); Noonan: 19-14-4 (up 3.04 units); Lack: 21-14-2 (up 3 units); Powers: 20-17-0 (up 1.48 units); Gordon: 2 for 4 (down 0.26 units); Hennessey: 15-19-3 (down 5.49 units)
VidantaWorld Mexico Open picks 2026: Top 10s
Mayo: Isaiah Salinda (+980, DraftKings) — Why not back the best player in the field… according to him? Look, is he a total head case who has slumped hard for eight months? Sure. But he led the field tee-to-green last week in Bermuda, finished third here in his last start, and has some of his best career finishes at wide open venues like this, Torrey Pines and Houston.
Stewart: Johnny Keefer (+300, DraftKings) — Vidanta Vallarta requires a similar skill set to a few other venues on the PGA Tour. The Renaissance Club, Memorial Park Golf Course, TPC Craig Ranch, and the Black Desert Resort Course are four of them that caught my “comp” attention. You know what else caught my attention? Johnny Keefer finished in the top 10 at all of them this season.
Noonan: Blades Brown (+380, FanDuel) — Blades Brown and his family certainly chose an unusual path, but it’s hard to argue that it wasn’t the right one. It didn’t matter if it was a Korn Ferry Tour or PGA Tour event, Blades Brown was competitive in nearly every start this season. He finished second last time out in the season-ending Korn Ferry Tour Championship, his fourth T-9 or better finish in his past eight starts. It’s when, not if.
Hennessey, Golf Digest: Doug Ghim (+174, DraftKings) — Ghim is on an absolute heater, spiking in nearly statistical category across five straight top-20 finishes.
Powers, Golf Digest: Gordon Sargent (+790, DraftKings) — Sargent is a bomber by trade and has finally started to see some results over the last handful of months. His two best finishes in 2026, a T-2 and a T-8, came at the Corales and the Puerto Rico Open, a pair of coastal tracks featuring paspalum grass just like this one.
Lack: Jackson Suber (+370, DraftKings) — I have been riding Jackson Suber all Fall swing, and this is another event where his excellent long iron play should come in handy. Suber ranks top five in this field in strokes gained approach from 200 yards plus, and he is a rock-solid driver of the ball as well.
Gordon: Corey Conners (+300, FanDuel) — Conners ended his top-10 drought last week which dated back to June at the Travelers Championship... is he back? In three rounds he posted season-highs in both SG/off-the-tee and SG/approach.
Top-10 results from the Butterfield Bermuda Championship: Everybody: 0 for 1
Top-10 results from the 2026 season: Mayo: 10 for 37 (up 32.55 units); Lack: 9 for 37 (up 6.2 units); Noonan: 11 for 38 (up 5.6 units); Gordon: 2 for 4 (up 3.1 units); Stewart: 9 for 37 (up 2.05 units); Powers: 7 for 37 (down 5.43 units); Hennessey: 6 for 37 (down 12.6 units)
