U.S. Open 2025: PGA Tour pro's 120-YARD putt shows how fast Oakmont's fairways are
Golf fans have been inundated this week with videos from Oakmont showing off the famed course's thick rough to its slick greens to the club's special mowers that cut that thick rough in a way that makes it play even more difficult. At this rate, we'll all be agronomy experts by the time the U.S. Open is over.
But on Tuesday evening, a new category of course condition videos showed up with one PGA Tour pro showing how fast Oakmont's fairways are. And it's pretty wild.
Thanks to the Fried Egg's Andy Johnson for capturing this video of Zac Blair using a putter for his approach shot on the par-4 first hole. From 120 yards. That's YARDS and not feet. Have a look:
That's one way to do it. What a freaking golf shot.
A full 27 seconds goes by before Blair's ball settles pin high and he tips his cap to those watching. Incredible.
So, there you have it. Oakmont's fairways are faster than the greens at your home course. These guys are good. And by these guys, we mean the maintenance staff getting this golf course ready. OK, the golfers playing it are still pretty darn good as well.
