U.S. Open 2024: Here's how the USGA is honoring Grayson Murray at Pinehurst No. 2

After Grayson Murray’s tragic passing last month, his parents Eric and Terry Murray put out a statement that ended with a touching message: “Please honor Grayson by being kind to one another. If that becomes his legacy, we could ask for nothing else.” The USGA is doing what it can to keep this mantra afloat in Grayson’s honor during the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2.
U.S. Open organizers set up an emotional tribute to the late golfer by keeping his locker in the clubhouse, adorned with a plaque and a resonant quote.

“The USGA remembers Grayson and pays tribute to the playing accomplishments that merited his place in the 124th U.S. Open Championship,” the sign reads. “Be kind to one another.”
Murray had qualified for the Pinehurst major by ranking inside the top 60 in the OWGR in May, earning a full exemption into the championship. This would’ve been his third U.S. Open showing, after competing in 2013 and 2022.
Murray also was inside the top 60 in the OWGR ranking on Monday. The USGA removed him from the list for the purposes of determining qualifiers for the U.S. Open. By doing that Adam Scott, who was ranked No. 61, moved up to No. 60 and earned a spot into the Pinehurst field that will keep his major championship streak alive a 92 straight starts.
