Misadventures in Golf Travel
Man tries to smuggle shotgun through airport security in golf bag, fools absolutely no one
We all know that flying with golf clubs can be risky business. Half the time they show up to their intended destination in pieces. The other half of the time they don’t show up at all. And if you’re trying to smuggle a shotgun in your golf bag, replete with its own camouflage “headcover,” fuhgeddaboudit. Just ask this secret agent/hitman/golf sicko, who was recently nabbed by TSA for trying to pull off that exact stunt.
Honestly, we don’t know what this guy was thinking. In today’s day and age, you can’t even get a full-size toothpaste tube through airport security, let alone a shotgun. Yet he somehow assumed he was going to be the ONE GUY to crack the code … by disguising a shotgun as a pitching wedge. Jason Bourne he ain’t.
As TSA helpfully points out, it’s actually legal to fly with a firearm provided its unloaded, in a locked case and declared to the airline ahead of time. Perhaps when this guy is removed from the “no fly” list in a decade or two, he can give it another try the right way. In the meantime, it looks like he’ll have to stick to local courses only.
