The PGA Tour moves quickly, no matter how much rain comes down the weekend before. After a wet, wild Sunday at U.S. Open, we’re all set for a signature event with this week’s Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands. Recent major champ J.J. Spaun will be teeing off, even with his busy schedule, as will 45 of the top 50 golfers in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Defending champ Scottie Scheffler, coming off a T-7 at Oakmont, has a chance to become the first back-to-back winner of the Travelers since 2001-’02. And, in case you’re wondering, that pro was Phil Mickelson, who won both years by a single stroke back when the event was called the Canon Greater Hartford Open. Scheffler outlasted Tom Kim in a playoff in 2024 with a birdie on the first extra hole for his sixth win of the season at that point.

Along with Scheffler, we’re set to see Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, Russell Henley, Sepp Straka, Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Åberg. There are some sponsor's exemptions as well, most notably recent amateur-turned-pro Luke Clanton, tour mainstay Rickie Fowler and 2019 U.S. Open champ Gary Woodland.

The course remains one of the PGA Tour’s shortest, a par 70 at 6,844 yards. The lowest round here is the lowest in tour history, a 58 by Jim Furyk in 2016. He finished T-5 that year.

TPC River Highlands has a long history hosting the annual Travelers Championship on the PGA Tour, dating back to 1984, when Pete Dye redesigned nine of the existing holes (formerly Edgewood Country Club). Then one of Dye's former associates, Bobby Weed, returned in 1989 to not only renovate the existing course but add holes as part of a newly built home-development project, one of the first of its kind. Weed has continued to return to renovate the course over the years, including most recently a substantial bunker project in 2016.
