Travelers: Bubba Watson three back of leaders

Vaughn Taylor, who won earlier in the year at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, holds a share of the lead with Andrew Loupe and Jerry Kelly after the first round of the Travelers Championship. Taylor shot a bogey-free six-under 64 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn., including five consecutive birdies from holes 12 to 16.

Loupe, seeking his first win on the PGA Tour, fired seven birdies en route to his six-under 64. Kelly birdied the last hole to grab a hold of the lead, looking for his first win since 2009.

Jon Rahm, the 21-year-old Spaniard who finished second at the RBC Canadian Open, shot a five-under 65. He is currently tied for fourth with Marc Leishman and Ben Martin, just a stroke off the lead.

Brooks Koepka, coming off a fourth-place finish at the PGA Championship, shot a three-under 67. Playing in his second tournament since rehabbing from a nagging ankle injury, Koepka is tied for ninth with Bubba Watson, three shots back of the lead.

Watson, the defending champion of the Travelers Championship, caught fire on the back nine, making three consecutive birdies from holes 11 to 13. He, Patrick Reed and Matt Kuchar are missing the Olympic opening ceremonies for this tournament.

Reed shot even-par 70, while Kuchar shot a one-under 69.

Bryson DeChambeau, who has missed the cut in five tournaments since turning pro, shot a two-over 72. Barring a good round on Friday, he could be in danger of missing his sixth cut.
